Talent: Collaboration with Universities UT Austin Department Of Biomedical Engineering Industry Affiliates ProgramUT Austin Women in Engineering Program Science and Technology Affiliates for Research (STAR) Program UT Austin Student Employment UT Austin Biomedical Engineering Senior Capstone Design Program
The Department seeks to build long-term relationships with visionary industry leaders and companies through departmental, college, and university-wide programs. The Industry Affiliates Program provides financial support for numerous Department activities and organizations. Industry Affiliate membership dues provide support for the BME seminar series, the BME Honor Society (Beta Mu Epsilon), The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), and other BME activities. Participation is a terrific way to make a valuable contribution to the Department and to establish contacts and build name recognition for your company at the university.
The mission of the Women in Engineering Program is to increase the overall percentage of women in Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin. The Engineer Career Assistance Center can assist companies with matching engineering students for internships and employment.
The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at UT Austin provides the university and national research communities with comprehensive advanced computing resources and services that enable computationally-intensive research. STAR offers companies opportunities to increase their effectiveness. TACC and STAR participants will advance fundamental and applied research and development in the areas of science, technology and engineering, among others. The STAR program supports high-risk/high-gain research, developing new approaches to solving problems. For more information on STAR, call 512.471.9961.
The University of Texas offers decentralized career services. Fifteen college-based career services offices provide job/internship search and career development assistance and additional recruiting services to employers seeking to hire UT students from their specific degree programs. Access UT links employers and students and permits companies to post professionally oriented jobs and internships. Each college provides career resources to their students for articulating and achieving career goals, obtaining experience through jobs and internships, and obtaining employment upon graduation. The Texas Exes and some colleges also provide alumni career services. Many colleges provide recruiting services to employers wishing to hire their students for professional job and internship opportunities, including on-campus recruiting, job and internship fairs, cooperative education programs, job/internship databases, and resume referrals.
The purpose of the program is to provide a capstone, hands-on learning experience that synthesizes knowledge acquired from previous course work and to prepare the BME undergraduate seniors for the practical challenges encountered in a career in engineering. The program is offered as a course that is continuous through the fall and spring semesters. At the end of the fall semester, the student team submits a formal design proposal to their sponsoring organization. The team then begins working on the design in the spring semester, concluding with a final report and prototype in May. Organizations may participate by submitting a short design project statement of work. Organizations interested in participating or receiving more information may contact the BME Senior Design Course Administrator, Margo Cousins at 512.471.3049. Deadlines for project submission are in September of each year.
