Demographics: Healthcare Major Hospital Systems in the Austin Region Seton Family of Hospitals was recognized as one of the best healthcare systems in the nation and the highest in Texas by Verispan, a healthcare data and consulting firm that ranks healthcare systems by efficiency and performance (the Verispan 2008 rankings were published in Modern Healthcare Magazine). Austin Surgical Hospital Austin Surgical Hospital specializes in inpatient surgery and outpatient procedures. The hospital offers a state-of-the-art imaging department and a specialized clinical team who provide the highest quality patient care.
Cornerstone Hospital of Austin is a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital that operates as a freestanding facility or as a "hospital within a hospital," with other hospitals. The average length of stay for LTACH patients is 25 days or greater. Under Medicare guidelines, patients admitted to LTACHs must be in need of hospitalization for greater than 25 days and typically have multiple or complex medical complications.
Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas – Opened in June 2007, the
$134 million, 470,000 square foot facility has 170 beds. The all-digital, all-wireless facility boasts many new and expanded services that will position it as a world-class leader in both simple and complex pediatric care, giving families the option of expert care closer to home. Specialty features include a comprehensive pediatric trauma program, a plastic and reconstructive surgery center, pediatric intensive care unit, Level III neonatal ICU and emergency department.
Heart Hospital of Austin is a 58-bed specialty care facility dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Specialty features include three state-of-the-art catheterization labs.
SCA's Surgical Hospitals specialize in same-day surgical services but also have the capability to perform more complex surgeries that require an overnight stay. These hospitals tend to be smaller than traditional, acute-care hospitals, and their focused mission allows them to provide highly-specialized, high quality care to their patients in a more cost-efficient setting.
Seton Medical Center Austin broke ground June 2007 on a new five-story, 124,000 square foot addition to the existing hospital located at West 38th Street. The new addition will house the obstetrical services department. The hospital has 440 licensed beds, which will increase with up to 60 more upon completion of construction in December 2008.
Seton Northwest Hospital offers comprehensive healthcare services including 24-hr emergency room, pain management clinic, maternity services and a sleep lab. The maternity unit was recently expanded and has a Level II special care nursery.
Seton Southwest Hospital’s patient services are designed to target the growing needs of southwest Travis County communities. As an acute care hospital, Seton Southwest provides high-quality, cost-effective care - with a range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical, obstetric and rehabilitation services.
St. David’s Medical Center provides comprehensive care with special expertise in neurology and neurosurgery, cardiac services, bariatric surgery, orthopedics, maternity and newborn services and rehabilitation. St. David’s Medical Center is both a Primary Stroke Center and a Certified Chest Pain Center. They also have the largest Level III Neonatal ICU in Central Texas.
St David’s North Austin Medical Center is a 210-bed, 652,000 square foot full service hospital that combines convenience with state-of-the-art healthcare services. The Medical Center offers a kidney transplant program, a sleep lab and epilepsy surgery and brain-mapping procedures. A wide range of medical and surgical services are available at the hospital. St David’s Healthcare announced plans to construct St David’s Women’s Hospital, a 377,000 square foot hospital dedicated to women’s services on the St David’s North Austin Medical Center site. The $82 million facility is scheduled to open in March 2009.
St. David’s South Austin Medical Center offers a comprehensive and nationally recognized cardiac program, a fully renovated maternity unit with Level I and Level II nurseries and a thriving 24-hour emergency department.
Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute – Created by St. David’s HealthCare and Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia, the Institute serves as an international treatment, training and research center specializing in heart rhythm disorders.
University Medical Center at Brackenridge (a member of the Seton Family of Hospitals) is located in Austin’s Central Business District. UMCB is the only Level II Trauma Facility serving the Central Texas area and provides acute care and outpatient services utilizing the latest in advanced technology, such as the Brain & Spine Center's Cyberknife. Accredited as a teaching hospital, UMCB is affiliated with Austin Medical Education Programs and UTMB, one of the nation's leading centers for medical education and research.
Lakeside Hospital at Bastrop (opened Fall 2006) has a mission to be the “provider of choice” to the citizens of Bastrop and surrounding areas providing the highest standard of private hospital services, directed by a dedicated medical staff, using current technology, delivered with integrity, dignity and demonstrated respect by a committed staff striving for excellence.
Smithville Regional Hospital’s new 45,000 square foot facility provides the highest quality personalized healthcare and is a source for progressive diagnostic technology for the community.
Cedar Park Regional Medical Center opened in 2008 as a joint venture between Community Health Systems and the Seton Family of Hospitals. The 360,000 square foot, $125 million state-of-the-art facility with 151 private rooms has a full-service emergency department, surgical suites and acute care services.
St. David’s Georgetown Hospital - For the past 70 years, St. David's Georgetown Hospital has established itself as a community healthcare resource in Williamson County. A comprehensive healthcare provider, St. David's Georgetown Hospital is a full service, 122-bed facility with a 24-hour major and minor emergency department. The hospital also has a state-of-the-art cancer treatment center, inpatient and outpatient surgery, acute inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient therapy. The hospital features a Level IV trauma center.
Seton Medical Center Hays has started excavation for the construction of a 210-bed hospital. The facility will have a full-service Emergency Department, cardiac services, women’s services, Neonatal II Nursery, critical care services, inpatient medical services including oncology, full range of urology services and other services.
Seton Edgar B. Davis Hospital is a general acute care facility committed to providing quality inpatient and outpatient services for residents of Caldwell and surrounding counties. Seton Edgar B. Davis offers health education and wellness programs. In addition, specialists offer a number of outpatient specialty clinics providing area residents local access to the services of medical specialists. To best serve the area's emergency needs, Seton also has a 10-year agreement with Caldwell County to manage EMS services.
St. David’s Pflugerville Clinic provides rehabilitation, lab and x-ray services. A full range of orthopedic and aquatic rehabilitation services are available at the clinic.
Scott & White University Medical Campus- This 196,000 square foot acute care hospital opened in 2007 with 72 beds and has specialties in heart & vascular care, orthopedics and women’s services.
Seton Medical Center Williamson - This new and innovative 365,761 square foot medical facility that opened in late 2007 includes a 181-bed hospital (with space for 350 beds), ambulatory surgery center, diagnostic/imaging center and full-service emergency department. Future plans include development on adjacent land for additional medical office buildings, facilities to accommodate more educational education and eventually medical research facilities.
St David’s Round Rock Medical Center expended $1.4 million to expand the newborn intensive care unit in 2007-08. Other services include The Heart Center with express testing, inpatient capacity of 107 beds with private rooms, The Women's Center, and an Emergency Room. The medical staff at Round Rock Medical Center has more than 300 active members and is growing to meet the needs of the expanding Williamson County population.
Plans are underway to develop a medical research/training school in close proximity to Seton Medical Center Williamson and Scott & White. A&M has affiliate agreements with Scott & White, St. David’s HealthCare, Seton Family of Hospitals and Lone Star Circle of Care. Future plans are to have a four-year medical campus at the location.
Texas State University Nursing School – Texas State University has allocated funds for the development of a nursing school with plans to admit the first class of students in the fall of 2010.
Reliant Rehabilitation Hospital Central Texas, a subsidiary of Reliant Healthcare Partners, is anticipated to open in 2008. The 71,800 square foot facility will serve as an inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing specialty hospital.
Central Texas Medical Center is an acute-care general hospital providing a wide range of healthcare services in San Marcos and neighboring communities. The hospital is planning a $35 million, 64,000 square foot expansion and renovation that will increase the facility to 121 beds and will include a new childbirth center, a Level II neonatal critical care unit, a new cardiac telemetry inpatient nursing unit and expansion of the hospital’s surgical suite. Special services offered at Central Texas Medical Center include a 24-hour emergency center. CTMC collaborates with local schools and university systems to promote higher education and development in the healthcare field.
Johns Community Hospital has 25 beds and features a 24-Hr emergency room, radiology laboratory, surgery and intensive care services.
